Procedure
- Cut the sponge horizontally into into 4 long, thin strips.
- Pour the 25mL of dish soap into the washbasin.
- After a few minutes, you will need to use the strips of the sponge as a 'boom'. Put them in the water and drag as much of the oil as you can to one side of the washbasin.
- Use the cotton balls to soak up as much of the oil as you can.
- Use the spoon to pick up any remaining oil contained between the sponge boom and the side of the washbasin.
- Use the sponges themselves to pick up any remaining oil.
- Repeat steps 5 and 6.
- Place all the recovered oil into the beaker.
- Clean up the testing area, and anything else used in the experiment.
