Hypothesis
Egg Osmosis Experiment #1 (water with blue food coloring)
If diffusion and osmosis across a selectively permeable membrane are related to the substance the membrane is submersed in, then an egg submerged in blue water will turn blue on the outside, as well as dilate and expand as a result of the diffusion of water into the egg.
Egg Osmosis Experiment #2 (molasses)
If diffusion and osmosis across a selectively permeable membrane are related to the substance the membrane is submersed in, then an egg submerged in molasses will shrink as well as lose mass as a result of the diffusion of water out of the egg.
If diffusion and osmosis across a selectively permeable membrane are related to the substance the membrane is submersed in, then an egg submerged in molasses will shrink as well as lose mass as a result of the diffusion of water out of the egg.
Variables
Independent Variable:
- Substance the eggs were submerged into
Dependent Variable:
- The effect of each substance on the egg which was submerged within them
Controlled Variable(s):
- The amount of time which each egg was placed into their individual substances
- The amount of time which each egg was refrigerated for
- The amount of each substance which was poured into the beakers (mL)
